The average price for installation of Christmas permanent Lights.
$6 396
In Fall 2023 we sought quotes for a project in Ottawa and asked our friends to share their experiences and results. First off, it’s worth noting that the response rate from installers was approximately 50%. We have marked those who did not respond in a table ‘contractors.’ As for those who did provide quotes, the results varied significantly, the quotes ranged from $5,219.24 to $7,625.00, making it clear that it’s beneficial to compare options before committing.
| Quoted Price | Deviation from Average Price for 2-Garage House | |
| Quote1 | $6,110.70 | ($285.66) |
| Quote2 | $7,625.00 | $1,228.64 |
| Quote3 | $5,219.24 | ($1,177.12) |
| Quote4 | $6,630.48 | $234.12 |
Dimensions deviation.
While we expected some variance in pricing among different contractors, what surprised us was the significant deviation in the estimated dimensions. Despite the fact that some contractors made their estimates based on photos, while others visited the site in person, the discrepancies in the number of linear feet estimated were still notable. Take a look at the table below for a clearer understanding:
| Contractor | Number of Linear Feet | Deviation from Average (%) |
| Contractor1 | 174 | -6.25% |
| Contractor2 | 209 | 12.50% |
| Contractor3 | 182 | 0.00% |
| Contractor4 | 165 | -9.38% |

Permanent Outdoor Lights. Cost Estimate per Linear Feet
| Contractor | Quoted Price per Foot | Deviation from Average Price |
| —————————– | ———————– | —————————— |
| Contractor 1 | $26.40 | ($3.12) |
| Contractor 2 | $36.48 | $6.96 |
| Contractor 3 | $28.68 | ($0.84) |
| Contractor 4 | $26.52 | ($3.00) |
| | | |
With such variations in estimated dimensions, it’s highly advisable to also compare the quoted price per linear foot. Examining the data below, you’ll notice that some contractors charge almost $7 above the average per foot. While this might not seem like a significant amount at first glance, the numbers add up quickly. Considering a two-garage house can have approximately 200 linear feet just for the facade, and all-around LED installations could require up to 400 linear feet, these seemingly minor differences can become substantial.
Installers, DIY, or Partial Outsourcing?
Cost of Hardware = $1,380
The cost of ordering a hardware set directly from the manufacturer is $1,380. At first, it might seem like going the DIY route could save you around $5,000 compared to a professional installation. You can find a detailed estimate here.
However, that’s not the full picture. The final cost isn’t just about the hardware; it’s also about the time and effort you’ll invest in the project. Make sure to consider all these factors before making your decision.
If you’re not sure whether to go DIY or hire professionals,
consider our partial outsourcing option.
We’ll handle the tough parts, and you can do the rest yourself or hire cheaper handymen for it. This way, you save money and time
